The Tikkun Movement for the Renewal of Israeli Society and Culture was founded to mend the viewpoints that have led Israeli society toward division and could have resulted in national social disintegration. This effort is based on a vision of attentive Judaism—a Judaism that is sensitive to time and place.

Since October 7, 2023, when the State of Israel experienced—and continues to experience—the most severe crisis in its history, the role of the Tikun Movement is not only to mend but to heal.

Before October 7, divisions had become deep societal fractures. Political disputes escalated into street clashes, pitting protesters in Kaplan Street, Tel Aviv, against those in Kaplan, Jerusalem.

The horrific massacre of October 7 held up a painful mirror to Israeli society—one that reflects the inescapable reality of Jewish destiny. There is no avoiding it: we are all partners in fate.

As we face attacks from the south, north, and east, these physical and barbaric assaults are being accompanied by an intellectual assault emanating from the strongholds of Western liberalism—now aligned with radical Islam in its demand for the destruction of Israel.

We deeply understand the weight of this shared destiny.

However, shared destiny alone is not a noble enough force to inspire people to transcend themselves and truly become a nation. Destiny is imposed—we do not choose it. And yet, as free individuals, we insist on the right to choose our future.

When identity is forced upon an individual or a group—without their choice and without personal meaning—they become alienated from that identity and, in turn, from themselves. But when individuals and communities choose to imbue their identity with meaning, they reclaim ownership over their lives. When we actively attribute significance to our shared fate, we take the first step toward forging a shared destiny—one that makes us responsible not only for our fate but, above all, for our future.

Our Core Mission: Forging a Shared Destiny

The fundamental mission before us—one in which the Tikun Movement seeks to play a decisive role—is an honest and profound exploration of what it means to have a shared destiny.

We call on all sectors of Israeli society—Haredim, Religious Zionists, traditional Jews, secular Jews, and Arabs—to engage in a sincere and mutually respectful dialogue about the core values that underlie Israeli society.

This conversation must integrate a deep sense of belonging to our people and our land alongside humanistic and liberal values. It must be grounded in an attentive and inclusive Judaism, one that draws from the rich resonance of our people’s past—both ancient and recent—while remaining open to dialogue with a tolerant Islam that upholds love of humanity as a central value.

We invite all members of Israeli society to engage in a deep exploration of the fundamental concepts that shape our national existence.
